Poor M started acting a bit off on Tuesday of last week. She rejected lunch in favor of falling asleep on the floor of Jo's living room. This is very unusual for her but we thought maybe she was tired from a busy 3-day weekend. Tuesday her diapers became a bit icky and by Thursday night a bad case of diarrhea was in full force.
Last time she has this level of diaper yuck she was hospitalized so we were a bit nervous. The doc was happy to hear that she was drinking a lot (even if pretty much the only thing she would drink was milk) and encouraged us to keep pushing it. She recommended Lactaid in this case as her body was probably having trouble digesting the lactose in all that milk. It seemed to help a bit and she couldn't taste a difference.
She was very pale and weak and spent most of Friday sitting or laying on the floor or in my lap. Standing/walking was not an option. She wouldn't eat much except for the occasional bite or two of banana and a cracker here and there. By Saturday she asked for and ate most of a baby yogurt, some apple sauce and a few bites of eggs. Sunday morning she regressed a little and almost lost the mini breakfast she ate ... but we were lucky .. she was able to keep it down.
We took them both for a short walk each day and it was so sad to see little M sitting in the front of the stroller (she usually sits on the bench in the back of our "Sit & Stand" but she needed the back support) while Isla ran ahead. There was a softball game going on a couple of blocks from our house on Sunday morning so we decided to head over to watch a bit. M wanted to get out and barely made it across the street before she had to sit down. Poor kid.
Today is more of the same, she's droopy, not much talking, and mostly sitting, but she did eat a bit more for breakfast so hopefully the tide is starting to turn.
I'm home with them tomorrow and Wednesday thank goodness.
